'nother new creature. Found an uber-simple sketch of an eel-snake-fish-thing in one of my sketch books and made it into this thing.

Scientific name : Varanus meramuus
Common name : *N/A
Length : 15 - 24 feet (4.5 - 7.3 meters)
Weight : 249 lbs (112.9 kilos)
Habitat : Coral reefs
Location(s) : Great Barrier Reef, Australia; reefs of Hawaiin islands; select few other Pacific islands.
Diet : Omnivorous; opportunistic
Lifespan : **40 yrs in wild; 25 yrs in captivity
Notes : Docile and friendly towards humans and other large animals. Will approach out of curiousity. Bites to test edibility. Intelligence close to that of dolphins. Pods consist of 3-5 individuals within a large territory. Slow reproduction (1 offspring every 6 years).
Species Concern : Near Threatened - Causes included slow reproduction rate, habitat destruction.
Other : Bright colors indicate toxicity. Young are born with dulled colors that become brighter as they grow and age. Poisonous spines are located on forhead (3) and tail (3). People have confused partial-surfacing of these animals for 'mermaids' because of the strange fins on their backs. Breathes air. Cheeks inflate with air for prolonged time underwater. Breathing sacks also used to scare off other animals/enemies by inflating them.

I figured out how scientific names work! And hopefully the online conversions for height and weight are somewhat correct.
*I am having trouble as usual coming up with a common name. Any suggestions would be loved :3 The temprorary name for it is "Mer'Gan" **Possiblity of longer life in wild in high
You know, mer deriving from the fact that people mistook it for merpeople, and chin deriving from urchin, and maybe it could've bothered fishermen because it ate prime fish that they made tons of money for them?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and *Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same.
