Edit: Detailed the wings more :3
Started this as soon as I got home from school today at 5PM-ish and finished a few minutes ago at... 9:45/50PM-ish @_________@ I'm trying to make a picture a day for today, tomorrow and possible Thursday since I'm entering the portfolio competition in the Scholastic Art & Writing contest thing and I have like almost no original digital pieces (it's all fanart! Dx ) So this is also going along with my updated creatures thing. I drew a picture titled "Lizard-Bird Thing" or something like that and I was thinking of the cockatrice at the time. So this is what I ended up revamping it as. Used a few animal references (pose is from a screenshot of a secretary bird on youtube, used rooster refs, eagle refs, marabou stork refs, etc). It's eating a sea snake which is also why I titled this 'Cannibal' (cockatrice are part snake so something snake-like eating a snake...ya know). Mah hand hurts :C Crits greatly appreciated. I'm too tired to notice any boo-boos I made now....crap forgot I still need to take a shower >_> Comments
 Hmm... It might have been nicer if the feathers were shaded to be more defined.
Also, the legs seem a bit... misplaced, like they're bigger than they should be. And guuuuh, I'm too tired to give good crit. -__- Tough, I think the tail on this is really nice. I especially like how it sinks into the sand. -- something witty Feathers I gave up on at the end when I started doing detail. My hand started hurting way too much x.x Damn you human hands!!!
As for the legs, I based them (as well as most of the pose/body) off the secretary bird. The screenshot I took of the bird had the legs like that (they have really strange, long legs for a bird). But I made the leg farther away look weird *makes note to make it look attached normally* Bah,,,,at least now I know to go make the wings nicer tomorrow. And the tail was a pain in the rear to make so it better look good indeed xD That's understandable.
Now... If only we were some sort of alien life form... Ah, okay. I've just never seen that bird before so, I wouldn't have known. The wings had better look good tomorrow. >O *shot* Yeah, definitely. The tail was my favourite part of the piece. The detail on it was great, and it really looked like it was shining. -- something witty  >_> Get your head out of video games and learn your mythology child.
...but I was thinking of the cockatrice from Lost Kingdoms more.... x3 There, happy with your detailed wings now? D:

Never heard of a cockatrice in mythology yet... -- MOVED TO ~bulba-girl-lover  Aha! So this is what you were talking about. Dude...I like it very much. XD You are detail expert...end. XD
And since no one's commented on it, I'm gonna say that the snake it's eating looks really realistic...almost like it's really tugging on it. Awesome. *o* |
